‘Swamplandia!’ was interesting, well-written and had really great characters. But I hated it. I know I’m in the minority. The author has received several awards, and most reviewers — including the New York Times — loved it.

Okay, I’m definitely not Oprah. But her annual list of things she enjoys got me thinking about the things I like. I’m pretty sure my list doesn’t intersect much with hers — I don’t exactly have her financial resources. From shampoo to a great audiobook to websites and podcasts I love, these things are some of my favorites.

I watched “Hogfather” for the first time this weekend, and I forgot how much I love Death. I can’t think of another Discworld character I like better – though I love the City Watch. Guess I need to go get ‘Guards! Guards!’ – I’m still making my way through the older books (I read several of the newer ones then started over at the beginning). Anyway, I really enjoyed Death’s reaction to the socio-economic rules of holiday gifts.
